BARB'S INVITE

Barb Shaughnessy

I want to personally invite you to join me on this one of kind trip to Provence. Our design trip is going to be unforgettable. We are staying in luxury accommodations, eating fantastic food, drinking fabulous wine, and enjoying wonderful company, all with the beautiful backdrop of Provence. That alone would have made an excellent holiday - but add in our focus on interior design and I believe it becomes the "crème de la crème" of holidays!

I have chosen Provence as the location for a design inspired trip because of the popularity of French design styles today. Whether you are looking for the essence of French country or a complete French transformation of your home, the Provence region offers excellent examples of classic architecture and design.

In order to ensure that our time in Provence is best utilized, as part of the trip I will be offering prior to departure an in-home design consultation. I will come to your home to photograph rooms and help identify a "wish list" to identifying pieces that may fit your home. While on the trip, my sole purpose will be to provide you with inspiration and assist you in making any purchases. Consider this a wonderful opportunity to go to the source to shop with your own personal designer! I will help you cull out those treasures.

And treasures we will find. Provence is well known for fabrics, ceramics, and furniture, but we will take it much further than that. We will be visiting local artisans to learn about how the materials are made. We will be visiting home decorating shops and quaint local antique markets to search out perfect complements to your home décor. We will also visit architectural salvage yards to find those one of kind pieces like garden gates or even bathroom fixtures. And finally we will be invited into private homes to view how the locals throw these pieces together to decorate their own homes.

Not to worry though, we have interspersed these shopping elements with all the elements of wonderful relaxing European vacation. We will be staying at two wonderful luxury hotels, which are destinations in and of themselves. I have chosen both a rural and an urban location for the trip so that you can enjoy both aspects of Provencal life. These hotels are small, gracious and luxurious. Their décor will not only pamper you but also provide another source of design inspiration.

In addition, we will be savouring tremendous food opportunities on the trip - from lunches with winemakers and olive oil producers to grand dinners at Michelin restaurants. Add to that visits to local vineyards and olive oil producers and you will get a real feel for the Provencal cuisine.

And no trip to Provence could be complete without enjoying the spectacular sights. We will have fully escorted tours through the most gorgeous villages and towns with our own personal guide helping to understand how the architecture, history and culture informs the design styles coming from this region.

My own personal design philosophy is that you should be surrounded by pieces of art and furniture that you love and enjoy. By actually visiting the artists and the areas where your pieces have been chosen will give you a lifetime of memories as well as the satisfaction of actually buying from the source! My job will be to help you discover, purchase and bring home objects that really complement your home and your own personality.

Please come to our Information Night on Oct 25th to learn more about the trip and get a sneak preview of the sights and smells of Provence. I have invited a few of my Caledon friends to share their knowledge of food and wine, while I be giving a brief lecture on French design.

I again invite you to join me on this truly unique trip. Please feel free to contact to answer any of your design questions prior to departure.

Merci,
Barb
